Mise En Scene
Title: Extraction 2
Genre: Acton Thriller
I chose this movie because of the action packed thriller and the story that goes along with it. It highlights amazement to the audience.
Production and studio design used in clip is high key lighting. Where the audience is able to dissect the details of the situation and the people. The location and setting is inside a prison. The costumes are the protagonist with heavy black armor and swat type costume. This shows his readiness for combat. Furthermore, the surrounding people are mostly wearing either black or gray. The makeup on the protagonist is depicted as sort of bloody as he is fighting his way out. The color design is black and gray. The use of mise en scene heightens the tension as well as immerse the audience in the brutal environment. The setting depicts of a cramped, crowded, and a gray and stressful environment with many chaos. The lighting consists of harsh and combination of natural light as it is dark outside. The audience are meant to respond in distress to the scene as the situation plays out with our protagonist. The props that are used are everyday object such as wooden sticks, pencils, hammer, knife, as well as a rifles. The combination of all these factors enhance and contribute to the thriller and action genre by representing a gray/dark themed environment. The shadows play a role in obscuring parts of the fight, which adds suspense. This contributed to me liking this movie because of the way the every camera movement, lighting, expressions, mise en scene, dialogue as well as other elements that are used to enhance audience hook or attention.
All in all, mise en scene in this clip of the movie highlights and heightens tension of the scene. The audience is able to respond is shock or in distress due to the different props, lighting and the atmosphere it takes place in. The setting and location makes it catastrophic for the protagonist as he tries to make it out and rescue the side character.
