New technologies have made audiences more complex and unpredictable. How far do you agree with this statement?
Technology has come a long way since the first ever technological innovation was brought in this world. Modern technology have made life more effortless. In the movie industry, technological use have been greatly important in attracting audience. Movie production company such as Disney have been leaning more towards producing live action projects thanks to modern Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) to adapt to the original animated movies to attract modern younger audiences. With this, the greater number of audience expect higher sophisticated level of effects, and for the company to reach their target audiences. With that being said, I disagree with the statement that new technologies have made more complex and unpredictable.
Marvel Studios Avengers Endgame, and Spider-Man No Way Home are just some of the many projects made by Disney that are among the highest grossing films of all time. Thanks to modern technology, audience are more predictable in what they want in a movie. What these movies have in common are the use of high level special effects to integrate supernatural beings to the big screen. Specifically, the sophisticated and realistic presentation of these effects bring a greater number of audience. With modern technology, Disney is able to remake some of its original projects such as The Lion King, Maleficent, Beauty and the Beast are some of the successful remake Disney projects designed to attract younger audience and people who have grown up with the original animated projects to provide nostalgia. Furthermore, the budget to make the movie Spider-Man No Way Home was around $200 million which the vast majority of it went to special effects and CGI. With the help of technology, Disney was able to reach the desired audience and predict on what they expect in a Disney/Marvel film. The company spent over $2 million in the marketing process. These included technological software to reach younger and young adult audiences. Moreover, the distribution process using modern technology and streaming services have reached audience globally. With the evolving of modern technology and using them in film industries, it is evident on what the viewers expect in a multi-billion dollar film production company.
All in all, technology have evolved, and will continue to evolve with the years to come. In the film industry, the use of technology is crucial to reach the desired target audience and to deliver on what they expect to generate the greatest revenue. Which answers the question that technologies have not made audiences complex and unpredictable.
